A professional dancer since the age of 15, Shyamla has appeared on stages around Australia and abroad.

Her training began at the age of four at Cachelle Dance Academy, studying the British Dancing Association Jazz, Tap and Ballet syllabuses. She then trained in Jazz, Modern, Tap and Funk at Ettinghausens Dynamic Arts under the direction of Joanne Bolden, Natalie Ettingshausen and Kaye Thomas. Through Inaburra School, Shyamla was heavily involved in Rock Eisteddfod as both a lead dancer and choreographer.

Shyamla has been a regular teacher at Dance Central and Ettingshausens Dynamic Arts in Sydney as well as Dance Attic in London (Hip Hop, Bollywood, Jazz, Funk and Brazilian Samba). While in London, Shyamla studied Jamaican Dancehall and Contemporary dance under Paradigmz and Stuart Thomas.

In 2007 she joined Melange Dance, Australia’s premier multicultural dance company, where she trained in and performed a wide range of cultural styles including Brazilian Samba, Bollywood, Afro-Brazilian, West African, Dancehall, Cabaret and Caribbean. Highlights include performing in stage shows (Worlds In Motion and Flava of the Caribbean), choreographing a fusion Bollywood piece for the 2009 Australian Dance Festival and being invited to perform on Australia’s Got Talent.

Shyamla re-joined Rhythm Brazil in 2012 after a three-year break from dancing. Since completing her Masters in International Human Rights law and leaving office life to become a self-employed performer and writer, her mission is to use the arts to inspire positive change, enhance the lives of people and strengthen their sense of connection to each other as well as their communities.
