Sashya is a multifaceted performing artist, choreographer, creative director, model, writer and businesswoman.
Sashya is well known Australia wide for her forte in Brazilian Samba and is frequently featured in the media and associated with major Brazilian local and international events including the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, The FIFA World Cup and Brazilian Carnaval.
Working with the Australian Olympic Committee on some of their main events for the Rio 2016 Olympics, Sashya choreographed and performed in Rhythm Brazil’s opening and closing performances at the Australian Olympic Team’s official “One Year To Rio 2016” gala event presented by The AOC and Channel 7. She performed on Channel for the national announcement of their media rights to the Rio 2016 Olympic Games as well as for their “countdown” shows leading up to the Olympics. Sashya also appeared on the Channel 7 Morning Show to unveil the official FIFA World Cup 2014 match ball, the Adidas Brazuca on national television just minutes after the unveiling of the ball in Rio.
Sashya’s performance and choreography credits are extensive. She was the choreographer and principal dancer for the float “Paulini and Rhythm Brazil” winning the “Best Choreography” award at the Sydney Mardi Gras 2015 and Runner Up in 2016.
Sashya has performed alongside many internationally acclaimed artists including the renowned “King of Carnaval” from Rio, Carlinhos Salgueiro, the world famous Brazilian artist Sergio Mendes as well as many other high profile artists including Jason Derulo, James Arthur, Todd McKenney, Chong Lim, Rachael Beck and Afro Moses. She has choreographed and performed in several stage shows including Rhythm Brazil at Souths Juniors, The Smirnoff Nightlife Exchange Project, Brazilian Carnaval at The Ivy, CarnivArgyle, Bondiesta Latin Festival, CarnaCoogee and several events for the FIFA World Cup 2014.
Sashya’s television appearances include Sunrise on 7, The Morning Show on 7, Channel 9 News, ABC News, Channel 10’s Morning Show, Channel 10 News and Weather, SBS Television, Fox Sports News, The X Factor and RTP Portuguese Television. Sashya has been featured twice on the cover of MX Magazine with Rhythm Brazil and on the cover of VIVA Magazine for her work as a leading Brazilian Samba artist. Sashya has appeared as an extra in films such as Manny Lewis (Australian Film) and Heyy Babyy (Bollywood Film) and featured in television commercials for brands including Kia, Metamucil, Rapid Loss, the Powerbeat 360 Speaker and The Brazilian Gem Collection as well as photography campaigns for brands such Sielo Swimwear, The Rushing Hour, Graziela, and Suckinfun Sunglasses.
Sashya’s forte in Brazilian “Passista” Samba comes from over 13 years of experience in the genre. She has trained with Brazil’s top choreographers including the “King of Carnaval”, Carlinhos Salgueiro, Rio’s famous Carlinhos Jesus and Magueira musa Rafaela Bastos to name a few. She has also trained with a host of leading choreographers worldwide and her dance repertoire includes not only Brazilian, but also Caribbean, Cuban, Salsa, West African, Jazz, Cabaret, Contemporary and Hip Hop.
Prior to launching Rhythm Brazil in 2010, Sashya was co-director, choreographer and principal performer for Australia’s premier ‘world dance’ company, Melange (2005 – 2009). During this time she choreographed and co-directed the stage productions Worlds In Motion, Flava of the Caribbean, Afro Heartbeat and Bollygrooves.
Since 2001 Sashya has also been an established tour manager and concert promoter and has worked with a host of renowned international artists including Pharrell Williams / N.E.R.D., Kanye West, U2 Tour, Coldplay, Mercury Rev, The Black Eyed Peas, Nas, Beck, The Roots, John Legend, De La Soul, Air, Mos Def, Snow Patrol, Jurassic 5, Cut Chemist, Z-Trip, Scribe and Six60 to name a few. She has worked in conjunction with Australia’s leading promoters and festivals including Live Nation / Michael Coppel Presents, Frontier Touring, Chugg Entertainment, Fuzzy Touring, Slingshot Touring, V Festival Australia, Parklife Festival, Good Vibrations Festival, The Big Day Out and Splendour in the Grass.
As a writer with a background in Journalism, Sashya was the editor for Australia’s first national urban and electronic music magazine ‘Substance’ launched in 1996. She was also a music radio presenter and voice over artist for several years and has been interviewed for industry documentaries and featured in the Australian Financial Review for some of her standout early achievements.
